Trying for a baby?
Does trying for a baby keep you awake at night, but in the wrong way?
Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night because you worried that time is ticking on your biological clock? Are you struggling to conceive and in the dead of night you start to believe that your darkest fears will be realised? Can you not shake the thought that maybe your body is giving up on you? Does trying for a baby keep you awake at night, but in the wrong way?
Trying to conceive can be an incredibly lonely time, especially as the majority of couples who are trying to get pregnant feel that this is an issue that they can’t discuss easily with other people. Why is this though? Where has the stigma and taboo that is associated with infertility come from?
Sure, it’s a personal issue but it’s also one that some people feel questions the woman’s femininity and the masculinity of a man. There’s your stigma, right there. Horrid isn’t it!
Absolutely, the only way that we can overcome the stigma of infertility and kick it firmly into touch, is to get talking. This is exactly what the charity Infertility Network UK are trying to do with their campaign Talking about trying; and this week has seen the first ever National Infertility Awareness Week. This amazing week hopes to raise awareness of this misunderstood illness (See, it is an illness, just like diabetes or arthritis) and get people talking about the extent of infertility and the impact that this has on their lives. Even if infertility doesn’t directly affect you, chances are you will know someone, work with someone, or be friends with someone who are in some way touched by this illness.
But you know what’s interesting? There are 100’s of blog posts on the internet written by women (and men) who are trying to conceive. Blogging appears to allow for a degree of anonymity and provides a voice for these individuals who are desperate to share their stories and to receive support from their followers. I have shared one or two that I particularly like on my blog page and I stumble over more every day. Their stories are inspirational and although sometimes heart-breaking to read, they all firmly cling on to one thing…….hope.
Maybe, slowly Infertility is getting a voice. Maybe people are gradually finding their way to safely talk about their fertility journey, their worries and concerns, and feel at long last that they can shout out to the world and be heard.
Thank you for reading
Bye for now
